5 Stars Great TV for the money
I’ve had this TV for a couple weeks now and I absolutely love it. It has a great picture and along with my new Sony upconvert DVD player my DVDs looks great. I don’t have HD programming yet, but even my Dish Network programming over an S-video cable look good. This TV also has a good digital tuner in it for those looking for over the air tv stations. My only complaint is the speakers. They sound a little weak but with a little tweeking you can make it sound OK. The TVs menus are also very easy to use and navigate and TV set up is a snap. CEVA shipping was speedy enough but not what it is advertised to be. I live about 90 miles from their nearest whearhouse so they farmed out the delivery to a different carrier. I don’t think the guy who delivered it in a semi truck knew what a HDTV. So needless to say I didn’t get any help setting it up or even carrying in the house for that matter. Overall I would deffinetely recommend this TV to anyone.

5 Stars Can’t Go Wrong
It’s an amazing TV and is probably the best value in its price range, especially at Amazon’s price. The screen is crisp and bright even in daylight. I did a little picture tuning using the free tool available on any THX certified DVD and am impressed with the picture quality and color clarity. The first HD feed I tuned into was the animated movie Flushed Away on HBO. I wouldn’t normally watch something like that, but I was completely blown away by the picture and was glued still. I can’t believe how good the HD feeds look.

This replaced a 32″ Sony WEGA Trinitron KV-32FS100 tube TV, which had an excellent picture for a non-HD set. I was worried that when watching regular non-HD 4:3 broadcasts the picture would be smaller than it was on my Sony (I refuse to watch 4:3 broadcasts stretched out to 16:9 - makes everyone look fat) and that the picture would look worse (like when you run an LCD computer monitor at a non-native resolution). It turns out that when watching non-HD 4:3 broadcasts, the picture size is roughly 33″ and the quality is comparable to my old TV (sometimes better). Phew.

Other Considerations:

* 40″ looks much bigger at home than it does at the store. Trust me.

* Use HDMI cables for the best quality picture. I ordered $10 HDMI cables (6 foot) here at Amazon and have had no problems with HD feeds or playing xbox360 at 1080p. Buy the cables here, don’t pay more than $10 each and certainly don’t go to the big blue store where the cheapest 6 foot cable is $60. Yes, interference can cause problems even for a digital signal, but at 6 feet give me a break. You won’t need a gas-injected, diamond-encrusted, NASA-certified cable.

* My cable provider charged me an extra $8/month to receive a group of about 10 HD channels such as ESPN, Discovery, TNT, etc. At least the major networks’ HD channels were not extra. Check with your provider to see if you will be paying extra for certain HD channels.

* The built in speakers are nothing special, but then again so are most built in TV speakers.

* Amazon comes through again. Unbeatable price with free shipping. I ordered it on a Sunday and received it Thursday; not bad for free shipping (granted it only went from Reno to southern California). The delivery guys even offered to set it up for free, but I declined. I don’t know if that’s standard operating procedure for CEVA, but it’s probably worth tipping them if you don’t want to set it up yourself.

4 Stars Overall a good product

Samsung LN40A550 40-Inch 1080p LCD HDTVGood picture quality, excellent remote. Delivery and set-up were excellent. Sound leaves a bit to be desired, but can be corrected with an inexpensive home theater system. A good purchase.

5 Stars Wow!
I received this Samsung 2 days ago. I had it up and running within

30 minutes. No additional setting needed to be made. The picture was perfect. This is with a DirecTV system.

5 Stars Great 40″ HDTV
My friends at work highly recommended Panasonic and Samsung as the HDTVs to go with and that the best prices were online. So after looking at Best Buy and putting up with some 17-year old salesmen (who indeed knew more than I did), I searched the net and Amazon had the best price with free shipping. I love this TV!! It has a great picture, and I set it up on its enclosed stand (did not hang on the wall yet) and had it running within 10 minutes (to digital cable, not HD.) It took 8 of those 10 minutes to auto-check all the cable channels. The white glove delivery was excellent, the guy unpacked the box and let us see that the screen was intact and not scratched. I then proceeded to uhook my old TV and hook up my new Samsung and it fired right up! Most excellent! After 30 days it is running like a champ still! Bottom Line: Would I buy this again if I had it to do all over? Definitely YES!!!
